and some interesting words I found in the dictionary:

CATACOMB - a series of underground galleries and chambers with recesses for burying the dead.
CATALEPSY - a condition in which the patient maintains his limbs in any position in which they are placed.
CATALOGUE - a complete list of articles, e.g. library books, pictures, museum exhibits, or goods for sale, usually in alphabetical order, or under special headings, and often with descriptions of the articles.
CATALYST - a substance that alters the rate of a chemical reaction and is itself unchanged by the process.
CATAPLEXY - a condition of transient immobility without loss of conciousness as a result of shock etc.
CATAPULT - a machine for hurling stones etc., worked by a lever.
CATASTASIS - the part of a tragedy when the action is heightened to its climax, following the epistasis and just before the catastrophe.
CATATONIA - a set of symptoms involving muscular rigidity and mental stupor, with alternating excitement and confusion, most often found in schizophrenia.
CATCH-PHRASE - a striking phrase intended to arrest attention, usually often repeated (e.g. in publicity or political propoganda)

all those "cat" words... rather dark meanings when considered from a certain perspective.

A few little things

These are not finished, but I'm posting pics anyway.



I've been trying to make glazes without using the evil toxic alkyd medium which has been giving me headaches lately.
Linseed oil with a bit of odorless mineral spirit for increased flow - still toxic, but pretty mild compared to the alkyds. Takes a long time to dry, though,even when very thinly applied. This is a definite drawback.


Found some paper which gives a nice texture. These are my "minimalist" paintings, haha: colour field with texture.

Trees

A couple of works that actually were finished a few months ago, and finally I have photographed them! This is not like me, usually I am much more timely in the documentation of my work. Perhaps because they are tree paintings, not cities, and I'm not sure if I'll ever show them, or where.

Inspiration descending

down upon me once again and oh how nice it feels!

Seems I have been just slogging along lately... I have enough inner drive to keep at it in all weathers (so to speak) but last night - oh how nice to feel light and bubbly and humming away, painting away, unaware of time and most importantly unaware of myself.

Light Dance

not sure if this is quite finished, but I like where it's got to so far:

Made these to cover the french doors in my sister's porch, which let in a lot of cold air. Together we hatched this plan to hang fabric from velcro strips at the top. And why just plain fabric, when I could stitch together a landscape?

I like those arched shapes (above), haven't used them in awhile - had almost forgotten about the simple but exciting dynamic of the humble arch!

And I love how the other two (below) are coming along! Just added the blues tonight - cobalt on the square one and pthalo on the long skinny. Plan is to do a night-city on the long one, dark sky and glowing buildings...

In fact colours are like people, aren't they: all different, and all changing depending on the colours next to them. Some are more compatible than others, and some you would think are just plain ugly, no two ways about it - but then you put that ugly colour in a different place and voilâ, it becomes beautiful! And some beautiful colours become very ugly in the wrong place, too. Really a lot like people.

Found a piece of paper which has the most interesting wrinkled texture, so I put it on these small canvases and am beginning to paint over them:
